Peter Whittingham admits Cardiff only have themselves to blame for not sewing up victory.
They thought the game was in the bag when Paul Parry scored with only seven minutes left.
But they switched off in stoppage time to allow substitute Alan Gow to equalize with the last kick of the match.
Midfielder Whittingham said: "We're absolutely gutted.
The game was coming to an end and we thought it was over.
"You're always thinking whenyougo1-0 up quite late on that that's it-game over, but fair play to them they stuck everyone up front and got their goal.
"It feels like a defeat. You have to take your chances to win games and it's hurting.
"In the windy conditions we knew we had to play 10 or 15-yard passes.
"We did that and opened them up a bit but just couldn't get that second goal."
Cardiff must have been kicking themselves all the way home for backing off Gow before his goal.
The loan signing from Rangers displayed a clinical edge Cardiff lacked as Joe Ledley and Roger Johnson missed excellent chances.
For Gow, it was the perfect way to announce himself to the Championship after a summer hawking his skills around the division.
Burnley, Norwich and Doncaster were all tempted but failed to complete a deal, leaving Gow eager to sign up when Blackpool made their move on deadline day.
He said: "A few clubs were in for me including Hearts but Rangers didn't let that happen.
"Blackpool came in and I was pleased because it is a good league. I need to get some games. I haven't lost my ability and now I want to show it.
"It was frustrating at Rangers. I had played every game week in, week out before I went there and didn't get so many games.
"So it's good to come here and get a few games."
