Championship: Swansea 3-1 Wolves

Jason Scotland says he's back to his dynamic best after his one-two knocked Wolves off the top of the table.

Swansea's Trinidad & Tobago international, who hit 29 goals last season, has struggled for fitness since undergoing a stomach operation in the summer.

But he said being rested for last Tuesday's win at Preston left him feeling "fresh".

"The rest did me some good," said 29-year-old Scotland, who scored twice, set up the Swans' opener, hit the bar and had an effort cleared off the line.

"I came back today and did the business. I feel I was back at my best. It was probably my best performance of the season.

"We knew it was going to be a difficult game against a good team, but we got the three points and we are delighted."

Manager Roberto Martinez has thrown down the gauntlet to Scotland to carry on banging in the goals.

"Can he be a goal scorer in the Championship? Yes, I can guarantee you he has got the ability and talent to do that," said Martinez. "But it's down to Jason to take this performance and take his playing on to a different level this season."

Swansea were in front after just25secondswhen Scotland set up Jordi Gomez who fired past Carl Ikeme from the edge of the box.

The lead lasted 16 minutes though as Andy Keogh raced past Angel Rangel and clinically found the net from a narrow angle.

But the Swans continued to threaten at a rain-soaked Liberty Stadium and it took Kevin Foley's goal line clearance from Scotland to keep the score level.

Mark Gower then had an effort ruled out after Gomez was adjudged to have helped the ball in from an offside position, before Scotland crashed the bar with his header.

But four minutes before the break Scotland beat the offside trap to latch on to Gomez's flicked pass and he powered home with Ikeme helpless.

Substitute Sam Vokes almost levelled for Wolves 30 seconds after coming off the bench.

Foley's low 53rd-minute cross from the right found Vokes inside the box but Dorus de Vries pulled off a fine pointblank save with his foot.

And Wolves paid for the miss four minutes later when Scotland turned Dave Edwards, raced into the box and drove home across the outstretched Ikeme.

"I feel sorry for Carl Ikeme because what was in front of him didn't do anything," said Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, who has now seen his side concede six goals in two straight defeats.

"This week has been a severe blow for us, but don't start talking of a crisis.

"We've got 22 points after 10 games. If crisis means being second in the table, then I'll settle for it any time."
