Derby 1-1 Birmingham: Steve Davies tip top for Derby
Published 00:00 01/10/08 By By Mirror Sport
Steve Davies was right on cue to snooker Birmingham's drive up the Championship table with a dramatic late leveller.
Derby substitute Davies struck with three minutes left to earn Paul Jewell's improving Rams a deserved point.
Quincy Owusu-Abeyie had unleashed his second thunderbolt in two games to leave Birmingham dreaming of inching closer towards league leaders Wolves.
Jewell said: "We just kept going and knocking on the door and we thoroughly deserved the point. Now we've got that never-say-die attitude that we need."
Birmingham drew first blood in the 26th minute when Nacer Barazite lost possession and Quincy raced away before exchanging passes with James McFadden and firing past Roy Carroll.
Blues boss Alex McLeish admitted: "People didn't take responsibility for their equaliser and that has disappointed me."
Much more of this and Paul Jewell really will start believing in fairy-tale endings after all last season's horrific nightmares.
After witnessing Steve Davies power in to score a dramatic late equaliser, the Derby boss joked that he's got a new job - tucking in the rookie at night.
Jewell said: "I'm delighted for Steve because he's young and living away from his mum and dad for the first time. I'm having to go round and tell him bedtime stories at the moment!"
