Winger Ward may return Huddersfield winger Danny Ward could return to the squad for the home clash with Sheffield United.

Ward missed Town's last league game against MK Dons and was doubtful for Saturday's postponed game at Leyton Orient due to an ankle injury.

Lee Clark's side will be without skipper Peter Clarke as he recovers from surgery to repair a double hernia, so Jamie McCombe is likely to resume his partnership with Sean Morrison, on loan from Reading, in central defence.

Winger Gary Roberts had a similar operation at the end of last month, but has so far only missed two matches and is already closing in on a return to first-team action.

Goalkeeper Alex Smithies is expected to continue on the substitutes' bench following his recovery from a long-term knee injury, while strikers Lee Novak and Alan Lee, midfielders Damien Johnson, Anton Robinson and Joey Gudjonsson and defenders Nathan and Tom Clarke, Antony Kay and Calum Woods are all pushing for a return to the starting line-up.

Town currently trail second-placed Sheffield United by a single point, but the Blades have a game in hand.

Sheffield United midfielder Lee Williamson is doubtful for the clash at Huddersfield.

Williamson is struggling with the calf injury that forced him out of Saturday's home win over Wycombe.

Ryan Flynn stepped off the substitutes' bench at the weekend and is likely to start if Williamson fails to make it.

Manager Danny Wilson has no new injury or suspension problems, but striker James Beattie will serve the last game of his three-match ban.

Recent signing Will Hoskins is pushing for his full debut after stepping off the bench on Saturday to score the Blades' opening goal in a 3-0 win.

Richard Cresswell has partnered leading goalscorer Ched Evans in recent weeks and Wilson must decide whether to hand Hoskins a starting role.

Collins sinks Terriers Defender Neill Collins scored his first goal for Sheffield United as the Blades emerged 1-0 winners from a gritty derby clash with Huddersfield.

Collins, who joined from Leeds in January last year, headed in unmarked only five minutes into the top-of-the-table encounter.

Ryan Flynn curled over a corner from the left to the far post, which Harry Maguire headed back across goal for Collins to nod in from close range.

Striker Richard Cresswell was denied on 37 minutes by a brilliant save from Town keeper Alex Smithies after a shot from Ched Evans rebounded to him.

Town, beaten for only a third time in 55 league matches, hit back when Jordan Rhodes hit a volley against the post after Jack Hunt's cross was half cleared.

Blades skipper Michael Doyle prevented an equaliser by clearing off the line a goalbound Sean Morrison header from a Danny Ward corner.
