Nigel Pearson insisted Leicester are still on course for an instant return to the Championship after making it three wins in a week.
Pearson's men moved to within two points of leaders Oldham, with a game in hand, after Matt Oakley's third-minute clincher.
And the Leicester boss admits the task of winning promotion is still firmly in their grasp after this victory.
He said: "It's been a difficult week for us, but we have managed to post three wins. We have had to earn everything we've got."
Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson admitted: "Conceding an early goal always gives you a mountain to climb."
