Haining ready for Shrimps comeback Defender Will Haining is poised to return when Morecambe take on promotion-chasing Southend.
Haining missed Wednesday night's 1-1 draw with United's fellow high-flyers Crawley because of a hamstring strain, but is ready if called upon by Shrimps boss Jim Bentley.
In further encouraging news, winger Izak Reid made his comeback from almost two months on the sidelines due to a hernia problem with a late cameo against the Red Devils.
Reid is expected to enjoy a substitute's role once more, although top-scorer Kevin Ellison may return to the starting line-up after playing half an hour in midweek.
Bentley is anticipating a tough encounter with Paul Sturrock's side at the Globe Arena as the games continue to come thick and fast.
"There is no doubt we will need to compete with Southend," he said. "Games are coming thick and fast and Southend will be a tough one as they all are at this level." Sturrock must decide how best to shake up his Southend side.
Sturrock was furious after the inconsistency of Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Aldershot, labelling his charges "gutless" and threatening personnel changes.
It remains to be seen not if, but rather how many changes he makes at the Globe Arena against a Shrimps side boosted by their midweek draw against Crawley.
Neil Harris came on against the Shots only to suffer a dead leg and he will be assessed while fellow striker Jack Sampson is expected to be fit after being ruled out of late with a knock.
Morecambe vs Southend
Last modified 18:07 25/02/12
Burrow joy as Shrimpers are sunk Teenage striker Jordan Burrow earned Morecambe a 1-0 home win over Southend with his first league goal.
The 19-year-old, recently signed from Chesterfield, bundled home Lewis Alessandra's left-wing free-kick from close range in the 75th minute to send title-chasing Southend to a second defeat in a week.
It proved to be the decisive moment of a tight game which produced few chances. Bilel Mohsni went close for Southend on 56 minutes with a looping header that hit the top of the Morecambe crossbar before Burrow struck.
The Shrimps went close to a second when Kevin Ellison saw a shot deflected inches wide in the 90th minute before the visitors had a golden chance to level three minutes into injury time, only for Anthony Grant to drag a shot from the edge of the penalty area wide.
Southend went close with Ryan Hall seeing a long-range shot blocked by Chris McCready and Liam Dickinson curling an effort over the crossbar from the edge of the box.
