Black out for Latics Oldham are set to be without full-back Paul Black for the visit of Tranmere.
Black suffered a hamstring injury during last Saturday's 5-0 drubbing at MK Dons and, although the club are still waiting on the results of a scan, he is expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks.
Captain Dean Furman has stepped up training following a knee problem and will be assessed again on Friday before a decision is made on his return to the midfield.
Latics manager Paul Dickov is set to include Reuben Reid in his squad, with the striker coming through a reserve outing against Burnley in midweek following a lengthy absence with a thigh injury.
In the same game, Reid's fellow forward Matt Smith bagged a brace to give Dickov further food for thought in attack.
Kirk Millar damaged ankle ligaments against the Clarets second string and is ruled out this weekend. The winger will have a scan once the swelling has gone down.
Enoch Showunmi and Andy Robinson are set to return to Tranmere's squad for the trip.
The forward duo are back in full training following respective leg and knee problems and played 90 minutes against Manchester City reserves on Monday night.
Showunmi's injury has kept him away from first-team duties since the turn of the year, while Robinson last played in mid-December.
Rovers manager Les Parry told the club's official website: "Both played another 90 minutes on Monday for the reserves. They both showed great attitude.
Oldham vs Tranmere
Last modified 17:27 25/02/12
Pressure on Parry Tranmere fans called for manager Les Parry to be sacked as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Oldham.
Veteran Latics striker Shefki Kuqi bagged the only goal with a second-half penalty and Parry's side have now won just one of their last 17 games.
Oldham made the brighter start and saw James Tarkowski go close from distance, but Tranmere carved out a chance for Ryan Brunt.
The visitors also made two headed openings late in the first half as John Welsh and James Wallace forced good saves from Oldham keeper Alex Cisak.
Oldham struck three minutes after the restart when Welsh brought down Robbie Simpson and Kuqi drove his spot-kick high to the left of Owain Fon Williams - the Finn's first goal in 14 games.
Simpson wasted a golden chance to double the lead six minutes later and Jean Yves Mvoto headed just wide from a set-piece. Oldham's Filipe Morais also hit the post with a deflected free-kick, but Tranmere could offer little in reply.
