                                                    Team news

Duo may make debuts Richard Naylor and Scott Griffiths will be hoping for Rotherham debuts when Port Vale visit Don Valley.

Centre-back Naylor and left-back Griffiths joined last week on deals until the end of the season, but neither made it on to the field for the defeat to Swindon.

Naylor was on the bench and Griffiths, on loan from Peterborough, was not deemed fit enough to make the squad, but manager Andy Scott confirmed the duo are in contention.

Midfielder Danny Harrison also missed out against Paolo Di Canio's side with the lasting effects of a nasty head injury suffered against Bradford on January 2, but he has now fully recovered and should start.

Gareth Evans suffered a knock last week and, having not trained all week, he is classed as a doubt.

Defender Ryan Cresswell and midfielder Mark Bradley, who have been out since before Christmas, were victims of a postponed reserve match, meaning they are still lacking match action and will not be risked by Scott.

Port Vale defender Gareth Owen's chances of being fit are not good after he suffered a broken hand in training this week.

Owen must wear a removable cast for the next six weeks which should enable him to play, but with the trip to South Yorkshire coming so soon after the incident he is struggling to be involved.

Fellow defender Lee Collins has been ruled out for up to three weeks with the ankle ligament problem that saw him miss the home defeat to AFC Wimbledon last Saturday.

Some positive defensive news for manager Micky Adams sees Clayton McDonald return from a one-match suspension.

Adams is hopeful that goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson (thigh) and winger Rob Taylor (calf) will train towards the end of the week after also missing the Dons clash through injury.

Millers' promotion hopes dashed by defeat Rotherham slumped to a disappointing 1-0 home defeat as Port Vale, which dealt their fading promotion challenge another crushing blow.

With a howling gale swirling round the Don Valley Stadium, the match was always more likely to be settled by mistakes rather than skill. And for both teams, the policy appeared to be shoot on sight and let the wind do the rest.

Rotherham's leading marksman Lewis Grabban saw three long-range efforts go over the bar or just wide and a Johnny Mullins header from Dale Tonge's free-kick was carried over the bar by the wind.

At the other end, Ben Williamson's wind-assisted shot caused problems for Rotherham keeper Rhys Taylor, who grabbed the ball at the second attempt. Robert Taylor twice went close for the visitors, and three minutes before the break Rhys Taylor turned Adam Yates' goal-bound shot out for a corner.

But when the breakthrough came 11 minutes into the second half it had nothing to do with the wind. Doug Loft scampered into the area and, just as he was about to cross, he was upended by Tonge's tackle and Marc Richards calmly converted the spot-kick.
