Serran in the frame Swansea could welcome Albert Serran back into their squad for Monday`s clash with Scunthorpe.

The defender, who has been plagued with injuries throughout the season, has trained all week and could make his first appearance since January.

David Cotterill, Shefki Kuqi and Mark Gower all came off the bench in Saturday's south Wales derby defeat to Cardiff and will be hoping to figure from the start this time around.

Lee Trundle, who was an unused substitute at the weekend, may also be handed a starting role.

Fede Bessone (knee), Ferrie Bodde (calf) and Jordi Lopez (ankle) remain on the sidelines.

Sousa will be expecting a response to the dramatic loss at the Cardiff City Stadium as his side look to cement a play-off place.

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins welcomes back captain Cliff Byrne.

The 27-year-old defender is set to return at the Liberty Stadium after completing a five-match ban following his third red card of the season against Ipswich last month.

Kenny Milne will miss out after starting only his second game in 19 months against Blackpool on Friday.

Niall Canavan could come in for Rob Jones, who has been struggling with a knee problem in recent weeks, while Adkins will hand a late fitness test to David Mirfin (calf).

                                                    Daily Mirror match report

Swansea City put their South Wales derby heartache behind them and re-ignited their play-off hopes with a first win in seven.

David Egdar, Ashley Williams and Shefki Kuqi did the damage in a totally dominant performance from the Welsh side who also kept a new club-record 23rd clean sheet.

The Swans remain fifth in the Championship after their biggest win of the season, but still have Leicester and Blackpool snapping at their heels.

"At the moment, we are dependent on ourselves and this is the mentality I want to keep," said Swans boss Paulo Sousa.

"We want to keep this position and we need to win all the games, but we need to think game by game."

It was one-way traffic from the off as the Swans took a more direct approach compared to their usual patient build-up.

Iron keeper Joe Murphy was quickly called into action, turning away Angel Rangel's shot after the Spaniard was freed in the box.

Then Mark Gower whipped in a low cross from the left which Kuqi flicked on to the bar, before Joe Allen saw a deflected shot from the edge of the box go just over.

Rangel later sent a ball over the top for Kuqi, who could have put the Swans ahead had he kept control of the ball, but he still managed to force a save out of Murphy.

The onslaught continued as Edgar's long throw was flicked on by Kuqi but Guillem Bauza could not get enough power behind his six yard header to beat Murphy.

And just when Scunthorpe thought they had weathered the storm, the Swans took a deserved 27th-minute lead.

David Cotterill's corner was flicked on by captain Garry Monk and on-loan Burnley defender Edgar was at the far post to fire home.

The Iron kept battling and Manchester City loanee Donal McDermott made a rare break into the Swansea box before scuffing a weak shot towards goal.

But Swansea got their second goal five minutes after the restart when Williams scrambled home his fourth of the season after Scunthorpe failed to clear Cotterill's corner.

In-form Cotterill later linked up with Kuqi whose back-heel fell into the arms of Murphy and then tried a 35-yard effort himself after spotting Murphy off his line.

Murphy had to be at his best on 69 minutes to deny Dyer's first-time shot from the edge of the box.

And soon after he blocked Kuqi's angled shot before Dyer pounced on the rebound, only to be denied by a goal-line clearance.

Kuqi later found the side-netting, but the flying Finn wrapped up the win 10 minutes from time, firing into the bottom right-hand corner after pouncing on Niall Canavan's misplaced header.

It was only the second time the Swans have scored three goals in the league this season, following the 3-2 win over Cardiff last November.

But the result left Scunthorpe looking nervously over their shoulders after being dragged right into the relegation battle, two points above the drop zone.

"Swansea were exceptional on the day," said Iron boss Nigel Adkins. "We've got to keep the unity and belief and keep going."
