                                                    Team news

Howe is Rene feeling? Torquay are sweating on the fitness of striker Rene Howe ahead of their npower League Two clash with Shrewsbury.

Howe picked up a suspected groin injury in training on Thursday and is rated doubtful by the club ahead of the visit of the Shrews.

Taiwo Atieno would be the obvious replacement up front for manager Martin Ling should Howe not be fit enough to take part.

Otherwise, the Gulls boss has no new injury or suspension worries as he looks to lead his side to their sixth straight league victory.

Defender Angus MacDonald signed on loan from Reading until the end of the season during the week and could be set to make his debut, although the 19-year-old will have to force his way past one of Brian Saah and Mark Ellis to claim a spot in the heart of defence.

Shrewsbury are hopeful Matt Richards will be fit for the trip.

The midfielder has picked up a minor calf strain this week but should recover in time to be in contention at Plainmoor.

Otherwise, manager Graham Turner is not expected to have any new injury or suspension problems as his side once again aim for a fourth successive victory following the postponement of last weekend's clash against Port Vale.

Striker Marvin Morgan continues to miss out due to his red card against Southend, with the Gulls clash the second game of his three-match ban.

Gulls keep on soaring Torquay registered their sixth successive win to overtake promotion rivals Shrewsbury and soar into fourth spot in npower League Two with a 1-0 victory at Plainmoor.

Torquay grabbed the only goal of the game in the 68th minute. Recalled striker Taiwo Atieno looped a header towards goal following Danny Stevens' cross from the left and central defender Mark Ellis seemed to help the ball over the line in the ensuing goalmouth scramble.

Visiting keeper Chris Neal made a brilliant save to tip over Stevens' 24th-minute goalbound effort after being teed up by Atieno.

Target man Atieno came closest to scoring for the home side in the first half, cleverly redirecting Damon Lathrope's thumping cross from the left just past the post.

Shrewsbury started the brighter of the two sides, with striker James Collins bouncing a header off the bar from Nicky Wroe's third-minute cross from the right, but Stevens responded with a fifth-minute volleyed effort from 20 yards that flew just over.
