Just when the Toon Army thought life could not get worse, along came Leyton Orient.
Disastrous does not come close to describing Newcastle's sad show, and the 1,500 travelling fans made it clear who they hold to blame.
See the highlights, thanks to Sky Sports, here:
Mike Ashley has become a figure of genuine hate. And as soon as he gets an offer for Newcastle, he should cut his losses and go.
Hard as caretaker manager Chris Hughton tried to defend his players for this timid offering, it is clear the uncertainty off the field is having a major impact.
Orient were 2-0 up after 20 minutes with a header by Jimmy Smith and a Sean Thornton penalty. Joey Barton replied from the spot.
But in the second half, Newcastle were taken apart with ease as Scott McGleish, Tamika Mkandawire, Ryan Jarvis and Harry Baker scored.
