Manchester City will announce the £19m siging of Brazilian striker Jo at a press conference later this afternoon. Get ahead of the game by genning up now on the player known to his mum as João Alves de Assis Silva.
1) Jô was born in Sapopemba, a poor neighbourhood of Brazilian capital Sao Paulo, on 20 March 1987 and named João Alves de Assis Silva.
2) His dad Francisco Dario had a failed football career and worked as a taxi driver to provide for the four children.
3) He has a 4cm vertical scar over his left eyebrow after tripping over as a child when he was running outside to play football.
4) When he was 15 his 12-year-old brother Joan, also a promising footballer, died in a car accident.
5) He joined Corinthians' academy aged eight, and during his time in the reserves was given the nickname Jo, his coach telling him: 'Jo is a better name for a real striker than João.
6) Jo became Corinthians' youngest ever player when he made his debut aged 16 years 3 months and 29 days on 19 June 2003, having joined their football school as an eight-year-old. On 24 August that year he scored his first goal to become the Sao Paulo club's youngest ever scorer.
7) Manchester United were interested when he was at Corinthians, the club refusing to sell him because three other forwards were injured at the time according to Jo. Milan, Atletico and PSV were also turned down, and Jo snubbed interest from Belgian side Anderlecht.
8) The Manchester weather should not be a problem for him - when he did decide to move to Europe he chose CSKA Moscow ahead of Benfica, the Russian club funding the £3.5m deal thanks to a sponsorship deal with Roman Abramovich's oil company.
9) Since arriving in Russia in 2005 he has scored 44 times in 77 games - including four in a 5-1 win over Shinnik. Here are some of his goals and some entertaining celebrations:
10) He made his Brazil debut in a friendly against Turkey last year but has not been involved in the squad since an apparent training ground bust-up with Brazil manager Dunga - and is said to have accepted he will not get back in the national team until the management changes.
