Sir Alex Ferguson will fly out to Euro 2008 for face-to-face talks with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Fergie will do everything in his power to prevent Ronaldo from turning his back on Old Trafford. Ronaldo's refusal to commit himself to the club has left Manchester United increasingly concerned.
And now they are threatening official action against Real Madrid, who are desperate to land the £100million-rated winger.
United's concern is such that Fergie is preparing to fly to Geneva next week to speak directly to Ronaldo at Portugal's Euro 2008 training camp.
Ronaldo arrives in Switzerland with the Portuguese squad this weekend with Fergie keen to meet the 23-year-old early to ensure he doesn't compromise their build-up to the tournament.
Although Ronaldo has four years left on his current contract and is United's highest-paid player on £120,000 a week, the club fear his head could well be turned by a lucrative move and the persistent courting of the Spanish giants.
Ronaldo has publicly declared his desire to play in La Liga at some stage of his career - and there is a growing feeling in Madrid that Real can make that happen this summer.
United have not been encouraged by Ronaldo's statements regarding his future.
On one hand he's said he is happy where he is, then claimed he cannot rule out a move to Spain.
That is why Fergie is ready to make a personal visit to Ronaldo, before his annual holiday in the south of France, in an effort to end the speculation and reassure United their star player will be staying.
It is a tactic Fergie has successfully employed in the past, flying to Paris 13 years ago to persuade Eric Cantona not to leave United after his infamous kung-fu kick on a fan.
Fergie has also used the same approach before with Ronaldo, jetting to Lisbon in the aftermath of the 2006 World Cup following the winger's infamous spat with United team-mate Wayne Rooney.
This time Fergie's task may be harder - with Ronaldo's camp aware their client could earn significantly more in Spain than in England, with the total package of any deal in the region of £100m.
