Sol Campbell has not given up on playing for England at this summer’s World Cup finals.
Arsenal defender Campbell, 35, has gone from being in League Two with Notts County to the Champions League in less than six months.
And Campbell still harbours ambitions of forcing his way into Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad for this summer, especially with England facing a defensive crisis.
Campbell, who has won 73 caps for England, said: “You never know. I might get a sniff here or there if I keep on playing. Why not?
“I’m not going to get carried away but it’s great to be back and in this kind of environment. I’m going to relish the moments and respect the situation I’m in and give everything I’ve got every time I play for Arsenal.
“Every game between now and the end of the season is like a cup final. The manager wants us to fight for every minute and every second for the rest of the season.”
Capello is facing a major defensive headache as Rio Ferdinand has a back problem and even back-up, Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Tottenham’s Ledley King, are struggling to be fit.
