Jack Wilshere has echoed calls for FIFA to allow the England team to wear poppies on their shirts in the friendly against Spain on Saturday.
The world governing body rejected the FA's request for poppy emblems to be incorporated into the shirts Fabio Capello's team will wear at Wembley.
FIFA said that poppies would be in breach of their regulations banning "any political, religious or commercial messages" on kits.
The FA have written to FIFA to appeal the decision and England midfielder Wilshere has added his voice to those calling for England to play wearing the poppy symbol.
The Arsenal star said today on Twitter: "England team should wear poppies on saturday. Its the nations tradition and it would be disrespectful not to! #ENGLISHANDPROUD."
He than added: "My Great Granddad fought for this country in WW2 and I'm sure a lot of peoples grandparents did so #WearThePoppy."
