Arsene Wenger has moved to reassure fans that Arsenal are doing everything they can to keep star striker Robin van Persie at the club.
The Dutchman's current contract expires in 18 months and his future has been the subject of intense speculation.
Rumours earlier in the season suggested that van Persie had become disillusioned with life at the Emirates following the departure of high-profile stars like Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
However Arsene Wenger told the BBC that he was hopeful that the 28 year-old would commit his future to the club.
"He has 18 months to go and I'm confident he'll sign a new deal. I'm always confident," said Wenger.
The Arsenal manager had earlier delivered a well-received speech to shareholders and fans at the club's AGM - and you'll be able to read a full transcript on MirrorFootball.co.uk this afternoon.
