Jack Wilshere has confirmed he has suffered a new setback in his recovery from injury.
Wilshere, who had surgery on a stress fracture in his ankle, has now revealed he has suffered another fracture - this time in his heel.
He had a scan after feeling pain in training last week.
The midfielder revealed on Twitter today: "I can confirm I have a stress fracture but it is not in the same area as my first injury which has healed very which I am happy about...
"I have developed a stress fracture in the Heal (sic) now and I don't want to put any time scale on it as I do not know how long it will take...
"I will update you more in a couple of weeks when I know more!"
He has yet to play this season and there are now concerns he will miss the entire campaign - including the European Championships in the summer.
But Arsene Wenger insisted last week that his midfielder could play again this term and even make the Euros if his recovery goes well.
The Gunners boss said: "Who would want to do that (write off his season)? I don't want to and he doesn't want to. But there is no reason either, if he is fit. If we have good news and he can move on, why should we do it?
"I am really disappointed for him as well, because he is a football animal. I am so sad that, at that age, you have to be out for such a long time with not any obvious reason.
"If you had have told me that Jack would not have played one game by February I would have said, 'That's impossible.'"
