Arsene Wenger has made his first bid to stop the mass exodus at Arsenal by signing £13.3million wonderkid Samir Nasri from Marseille.
The Gunners boss is set to lose Alexander Hleb to Barcelona and has already lost Mathieu Flamini to AC Milan, who are also targeting Emmanuel Adebayor.
But Wenger has moved for attacking midfielder Nasri, 20, in a desperate bid to convince his star players Arsenal can still compete for top honours next season.
Wenger has already signed Aaron Ramsey, 17, from Cardiff.
But, with a clutch of superstars to welcome his wantaway players at both Milan and Barca, the Frenchman is well aware of the need to recruit topclass talent.
Nasri scored six goals in 30 games last season, with his last helping to secure Marseille's berth in next season's Champions League.
