Arsene Wenger’s eyes AND ears failed him last night as Arsenal prodigy Jack Wilshere was caught in a red card storm.
Furious Roberto Di Matteo accused Wilshere of insulting Jerome Thomas before the West Brom winger was sent off for grabbing the England under-21 starlet round the throat.
But Wenger defended Wilshere, even though he admitted he did not know the full details of the flare-up.
He said: “My eyes are not great and my ears are even worse! Jack was upset as well. He said he was kicked.”
Di Matteo said: “My player went to shake the Arsenal player’s hand and he refused. There was an exchange of words, and then there was a reaction. I know what was said, but I’m not saying that.
“I’m disappointed that Wilshere didn’t accept his hand. He wanted to help him get up, actually. He’s a fellow colleague. But, anyway, that’s part of the game.
“I’m very proud of my players and my team. I’m not disappointed in my player. There was an exchange of words and he reacted. He reacted to what was said.”
