Devastated Arsene Wenger described last night's defeat by Manchester United as the lowest point of his 13-year reign.
He saw Arsenal's hopes of reaching the Champions League Final brutally destroyed by two-goal Cristiano Ronaldo and Ji-Sung Park, who scored to kill the tie within the first 11 minutes.
The Emirates also had to deal with a half-time bomb scare and Wenger said: "It's the most disappointing night. The fans were up for a big night and to disappoint people, it hurts really. The most difficult thing for me is we have the feeling we didn't get the chance to play in the semi-final of the Champions League.
"We started quite well but the game was over before it started and that's the most difficult thing to swallow.
"We can only look at ourselves. It's very disappointing, to fight such a long way and then to give the game away like we did tonight.
"I must say, United deserve to go through because the tie could have been over after the first game.
"I felt we had a chance in the second game and had we not conceded the early goal, I think we could have done it. But overall, they were the better side and good luck to them in the final."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes his team can become the first to successfully defend the Champions League crown in the 17-year history of the competition.
But they will have to do so without Darren Fletcher, whose red card last night rules him out of the final. Fletcher was ruled to have fouled Cesc Fabregas in the box. Robin van Persie converted the penalty.
Ferguson said: "We should have won this cup more times and it's another opportunity for us. Hopefully we can do it again.
"We have the quality, energy, drive and ambition to do it again and it's a hungry team. When the chips are down, they don't let me down - we play under pressure.
"Ronaldo up front was very good and this team's very good. I thought tonight Arsenal couldn't handle him. That made a difference.
"The two early goals left Arsenal with a mountain to climb."
