Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish says Barry Bannan's arrest is "a wake up call to every young player".
The Scottish midfield schemer has been one of the Brummies' best players this season.
But the 21-year-old was suspended and dropped by Villa and then axed by Scotland following his arrest on suspicion of drink driving after a crash on the M1.
This week, Bannan was bailed to appear before magistrates in Nottingham on November 25.
Ahead of Monday's trip to Tottenham, McLeish, who has held talks with Bannan, said: "It is a wake-up call to every young player.
"In this day and age, nobody is going to be too upset if a player has a glass of beer but at the right times.
"The Premier League is the top level and you have to be physically right.
"I am sure lessons have been learned. He is training really hard and looking very impressive in training.
"We have had one to ones and know how we want to go forward. He is knuckling down. I am sure all these things hurt."
Bannan was available for the home game with Norwich before the international break, although he did not make the final 18.
He made his playing comeback for the reserves against West Brom on Tuesday, scoring in a 3-0 win.
