Aston Villa are poised to make a £10million move for Sporting Gijon's highlyrated defender Roberto Canella.
Canella is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Spanish League, and has been attracting interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen to bolster his defence. In particular, O'Neill is looking to strengthen the left-back position with Nicky Shorey set to leave.
Villa hope to tie up a deal before the end of January, although Sporting Gijon insist they have yet to receive an official offer from any English club.
