Bayern Munich and Barcelona battle for Alexander Hleb

Bayern Munich have joined Barcelona in trying to prise Alexander Hleb away from Arsenal.

Barca thought they had beaten off interest from Real Madrid and Inter Milan to land Hleb.

But Bayern will match their £12million offer and are confident the Belarus midfielder can be tempted to return to Germany.

Hleb, 27, spent five years at Stuttgart before joining the Gunners in 2005.
