Blackburn boss Steve Kean angrily claimed Mark Schwarzer should have been sent off for a shocking foul.
Kean dashed from his dug-out demanding a red card from ref Howard Webb after Junior Hoilett was knocked cold by Schwarzer’s stoppage-time challenge.
“I was expecting him to be sent off,” said Kean. “It was bad, a nasty challenge. When I saw the way Junior spun and fell and saw that he was out for a few minutes, I was concerned and worried.”
The Fulham keeper smashed into the side of the Canadian striker’s head.
Hoilett came round in the dressing room and had four stitches after being concussed as he beat Schwarzer to Steven Kelly’s weak back-header only to be clattered to the ground.
Kean added: “I spoke to Howard at the end and he felt that even if Hoilett had got the first touch, Kelly was coming round – but we know the pace Junior has got and if there’s no contact he would have got there first, so I thought it would be a red card.
“Schwarzer thought it might result in a goal, so he went all out for it, to get either the ball or Hoilett too.”
Fulham boss Martin Jol said: “It was a 50-50 situation and Mark was clattered as well.
“You can’t compare it with Patrick Battiston and Toni Schumacher at the 1982 World Cup.”
