Roque Santa Cruz has escaped a fine from Sam Allardyce for claiming he wants to leave Blackburn for a "better and more ambitious club".
But the striker has been told he will not be allowed to go in the January window unless the deal suits Rovers.
Allardyce tackled Santa Cruz over his comments yesterday and accepts that the Paraguayan international wants to go just four months after signing a new £35,000-aweek four-year deal.
Manchester City boss and former Rovers manager Mark Hughes is determined to be reunited with Santa Cruz having had a £15million offer rejected in the summer and will return with an improved bid next month.
Blackburn are understood to want in excess of £20million for Santa Cruz, who cost them just £3.8m 18 months ago.
Meanwhile, Paul Robinson claims it is a relief to stand behind Blackburn's back four now that Allardyce is there.
Rovers' clean sheet in their 3-0 win over Stoke was their first in 12 games and the keeper said: "You could see by our performance what he's done.''
