Steve Kean claims he stole a march on the Blackburn fans calling for his head to quell their rebellion.
Kean said he was able to reduce the numbers protesting against his reign before kick-off on Saturday by meeting one of the organisers at Brockhall.
Only 300-400 took part in the march to Ewood Park and Kean claims 99 per cent of the fans are behind him after he led Rovers to their thrilling win over Arsenal. “I think it was going to be a couple of thousand so I did an interview with one of the organisers at the training ground,” said the Rovers manager.
“We had an open conversation, which he put out on a podcast to the unofficial supporters club, which was unhappy with a number of things.
“I’ve got no problem with meeting fans and taking their questions. I think that went a long way to changing the numbers.
“In the end, the march was a couple of hundred. That’s one per cent unhappy and 99 per cent happy. Hopefully, we can turn around that one per cent because the 99 per cent behind us from minute one got a fantastic performance.”
A relieved Kean shook his fists in celebration at the final whistle, while owners Venky’s punched the air in delight in the directors box.
Kean claims the Indians are totally behind the team and said: “It’s good that the owners are so involved. They came down to the dressing room after the game to congratulate the boys and it’s great to have their backing.”
