Blackburn striker El-Hadji Diouf faces two years in prison for an alleged assault on a Senegalese woman.
Diouf was charged with wounding the woman during a trip back to his homeland of Senegal for a charity concert at the weekend.
The incident is reported to have taken place on June 28 last year when Diouf, along with wrestler Cheik Sadibou Boye, were the subject of a complaint by Khady Sy.
She alleges an assault took place at the Casino du Cap Vert in the Senegalese coastal resort of Almadies.
Diouf’s agent Aleksandar Krstic said: “He was attending a charity event and did not expect to be arrested.
“At this stage I cannot say much more but I will be coming to the UK this week to speak to him about the matter.”
Diouf has previously been convicted of an assault on the ex-wife of his international teammate Khalilou Fadiga.
He was given a suspended three-month jail sentence for that offence.
If he is found guilty of the latest charge he faces a jail sentence of between one month and two years.
