Angel Martinez sent Blackpool soaring closer to football heaven with his first goal for Ian Holloway's club.
Spanish midfielder made it a good week for the Martinez clan after namesake Roberto's triumphs with Wigan when he swooped with the winner.
Martinez poked home after good work by sub Nouha Dicko and star man Thomas Ince to cement Blackpool's place in the top six.
Until then Andy Lonergan had come back to haunt old rivals Blackpool as he made save after save.
Lonergan was outstanding as he stopped Gary Taylor-Fletcher's lob and then excelled to turn away a drive from lively Ince.
However the former North End star's best stop was from a quick free kick by Lomano LuaLua as the set-piece headed for his top corner.
Leeds were dangerous too, Darren O'Dea heading over when he should have scored and Danny Webber stretching Matty Gilks from 10 yards.
O'Dea's night ended in misery when he was sent off for two bookable offences with defeat confirming Neil Warnock's men can't make the play-offs.
