Brett Pitman was in talks today with Blackpool over a £500,000 switch from Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old striker, who scored 28 goals to help the Cherries win promotion to League One, was meeting acting chief executive Karl Oyston, who yesterday quit as chairman.
Seasiders boss Ian Holloway has been chasing Pitman since January and the deal could be worth up to £800,000 with add-ons.
"Yes, we have put a bid in," said Holloway. "Will it happen? Don't know.
"Do I want it to happen? Probably yes. Will other people want him? Yes, so who knows.
"It is just a rat race at the minute and we are one of many rats trying to get hold of him."
