Jurgen Klinsmann was a shock spectator at Bolton's Lancashire Senior Cup tie last night - for a hush-hush meeting with Stuart Holden.
The German legend turned up in the unlikely setting of the County Ground in Leyland as a very unusual guest to look at his United States midfielder making his comeback.
Holden also had a chat with his new national coach after the game against Rochdale as he closes in on a return after six months out with a horror knee injury.
Kilnsmann dropped in on the obscure fixture on a flying visit after the Americans played Belgium in a friendly. He wanted to see Holden's progress - plus a chance to speak to the Bolton star for the first time.
Holden may figure in Bolton's squad against Manchester United on Saturday, a poignant game for him after being caught in a 50-50 with Jonny Evans at Old Trafford in March.
Klinsmann is keen to get Holden back into his international team after a slow start to his managerial reign - replacing Bob Bradley as coach at the start of the campaign.
