Gary Megson is lining up a January swoop for Manchester City striker Benjani.
The Bolton boss is desperate to boost his side's firepower as record signing Johan Elmander continues to disappoint and has identified Benjani.
The Zimbabwean international is surplus to requirements at Eastlands following Mark Hughes' splurge on strikers and could be available for around £1.5million.
Bolton could face competition for the former Portsmouth hitman and Wigan and West Ham are also believed to be keeping tabs on him.
