Burnley 1-3 Wigan match report: The Daily Mirror verdict

Hugo Rodallega put the boot into Burnley after Wigan's 'fashionista' striker proudly sported his latest pair of eye-catching footwear.
The charismatic Colombian has worn lime, pink and yellow colours, but the latest was a more simple white, even if they were perfectly decorated with his national flag stitched into them.
Rodallega takes great pride in both his shoes and his nationality and is something of a showman. But there is substance as well as style about the guy.
The first goal - after keeper Brian Jensen painfully and theatrically fell over - let him in for a tap-in that barely got them dirty but the second was a fine piece of craftsmanship and finishing.
Rodallega celebrated by pointing at the latest in his collection and team-mate Emmerson Boyce laughed: "Hugo has a lot of different pairs - some of them aren't great, to be fair.
"But as long as he's scoring he can wear what he likes. I think he has a bright yellow pair and another pair that are pink or maybe more purple.
"It shows he's a confident lad, who has got faith in his own ability. But he works hard for the team as well and chips in with goals. So he's perfect for us."
Rodallega, one of Steve Bruce's biggest and best buys, has caught the eye of manager Roberto Martinez who likes his catwalk-style swagger and thinks that is what sets him apart.
Martinez said: "When you speak about the right kind of arrogance in football he is the typical example. He feels he's going to score in any game.
"He scored an amazing goal against Aston Villa at the start of the season and sometimes those are key moments. He's very, very arrogant, but a great example for all the kids. At Wigan we always show them Hugo's attitude towards the game.
"He's perfect in his preparation and he showed at Burnley what he's capable of. It's just a knack that he's got.
"His overall play is better than people probably give him credit for. If he doesn't score, he still contributes a lot to the team and that's important."
Rodallega has scored five times in 10 Premier League games and wants even more as he confidently predicted to his boss. Martinez said: "On the first day he told me he wanted to score 15 goals.
"I said, 'If you score 15 goals I don't think I'll be able to work with you for too long'. I just want him to enjoy his football and apply himself the way he is doing and at the end of the season we'll look back."
Rodallega made all of the difference in this odd derby. Burnley started like a dream but for the second game running blew the lead and lost their impetus.
Only Jensen can explain his second howler in two games. Did he twist his ankle that badly when he went for an easy clearance or did he just want to get off? Jensen has enough credits in the Burnley bank to be given the benefit of the doubt, but his overall confidence seems low just now and that is adding to Owen Coyle's woes.
Stand-in Diego Penny made his first Premier League appearance and was blameless. The Clarets did not deserve to lose, but in this hard school they are starting to collect too many knocks.
Their famous reserves of spirit are about to be called on again, although a home game with Hull City coming up next is the kind of lucky break they have been searching for in recent weeks.
Skipper Steven Caldwell knew the significance of Jensen's 'moment' and said: "It looked like a slip and it was disappointing for the team because I thought we were thoroughly on top at that point.
"We were bossing the game, a goal in the lead and we looked like we were going to score more. It was a real shock and the atmosphere flattened and the crowd felt the shock of that goal as well.
"It was just a really disappointing day. We don't like to lose any football matches but we were proud of our home record and that's gone now.
"They're a very good side and they're established in the Premier League, they've got top players so there are things to learn from any football match. But we feel if we'd played to our full potential it was a game we could have won.
"We're going to have setbacks and it's important how you react to them. You have to try not to dwell on them too much. You have to learn from the mistakes and performances and we will go away and do that.
"But the important thing is that you don't get too down about it. We will analyse the Wigan game and then put it to bed and look forward to the next one, another game where we feel if we play to our full potential we can win."
