Former Burnley captain and manager Jimmy Adamson has died at 82.
Adamson made 486 appearances for the Clarets in a 17-year playing career.
He will be best remembered as the ever-present captain of the 1960 League Championship-winning team.
Recruited from Northumberland youth football, Adamson joined Burnley’s ground staff before signing a contract in 1947, aged 17. His senior debut came in 1951.
Despite finishing on the losing side in the 1962 FA Cup Final, he was named Footballer of the Year and, at 33, included in the England World Cup squad.
Adamson turned down the chance to manage England but following his retirement steered Burnley to promotion from the Second Division in 1973 before taking the helm at Leeds and Sunderland.
