Cardiff have sold Roger Johnson to Birmingham in a £5million deal.
Blues boss Alex McLeish upped his offer after a £3.5m bid for the centreback, 26, was rejected.
And a Bluebirds insider admitted: "Johnson was always going to leave after the club failed to get into the Premier League last season. He is clearly good enough to step up."
