Carling Cup newcomers face playoff tie

Crawley and AFC Wimbledon will play each other in a Carling Cup preliminary round next month.
Following a draw to determine home advantage, the Football League's two newest clubs will meet at Crawley's Broadfield Stadium on Friday July 29 for a place in the first round proper.
The preliminary round is necessary as cup holders Birmingham were relegated to the Championship but, due to their Europa League commitments, will still not enter the competition until round three.
The Carling Cup therefore requires one club fewer in the first round, so the two clubs placed lowest in the domestic system last season will meet in a one-off game.
The draw for the first round proper takes place at 10am on Thursday.
