Ancelotti targets domestic double after European exit

Carlo Ancelotti last night insisted he will be Chelsea manager next season – but said he lost sleep over the club’s Champions League fiasco.
Owner Roman Abramovich let Ancelotti and the Chelsea players know the defeat at the hands of Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan was not good enough, although he gave the coach his personal support.
Italian Ancelotti is now demanding his team make up for their European disappointment by claiming the domestic Double for first time.
But he said: “I’m 100 per cent sure I’ll be here next season, even if I don’t win a major trophy.
After Tuesday’s game I only slept two hours. I couldn’t sleep, which is usual when things go wrong. But now I am fresh, no?
“It’s not a big problem.
“I think that, at the end of the season, we will have had a very good season. A fantastic season.
“Roman spoke with me and with the players. He came here to support us. His presence here is very good.
“People like Silvio Berlusconi and Abramovich know very well how to motivate and support their teams. They are people who are very able to do this.
“We didn’t speak about the future of this club or these players, about the changes for next season, because it’s not the right time to speak about this.
“I said we have important games in the next week and we have to stay focused: all the players and all the club.
“But it’s normal that, with a new season, there are new faces.”
Ancelotti has told his players that they remains masters of their own destiny in the Premier League and FA Cup, and has his own good memory of bouncing back from a crushing Euro blow to secure a major triumph.
“If we win every game, we’ll do the Double,” he said. “And in 140 years here in England, only six clubs have done that.
“The worst I had with Berlusconi was after Milan lost 4-0 against Deportivo La Coruna to go out of the Champions League. We changed focus, concentrated on Serie A – and won it.”
