Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is making a £2.5million bid for Portsmouth midfielder Sean Davis - to put some new flair into the SPL champions.
Davis is available from Harry Redknapp's club and the South Coast outfit are prepared to let him go to Glasgow if personal terms can be agreed between the star, 28, and the Parkhead club.
Strachan has seen enough of his side in pre-season games to realise they may need a bit more craft to keep their title and have a real go in the Champions League.
Davis has the kind of talent that Celtic want and Strachan also knows that he is in the kind of price range that his club can afford - although they will be at full stretch to pay the wages he is asking for.
Pompey are keen to sell Davis to raise cash for signings, with Redknapp desperate to land French centre half Younes Kaboul from Tottenham in a three-way signing battle.
Davis recently had a proposed move to Hull City that he turned down and is choosy about where he wants to go. The lure of the SPL title and chasing European glory could appeal to him.
Strachan wants to snap Davis up quickly to press home their advantage over Rangers, while Portsmouth are hoping he can persuade the player to put more cash in their coffers.
