Aiden McGeady was upstaged on his long-awaited return to action as Celtic scored twice in the final eight minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw in their Emirates Cup opener against Lyon.
McGeady made his first appearance since May in the first match of this weekend's four-team tournament, with the transfer speculation surrounding the Republic of Ireland winger having reached fever pitch. He left the field with his side 2-0 down to last season's Champions League semi-finalists thanks to goals from Michel Bastos and Harry Novillo.
Celtic then staged a dramatic late comeback, with Gary Hooper scoring on his debut before substitute Georgios Samaras' header made it 2-2, giving both sides three points in a tournament in which goals are also worth points.
Meanwhile, Paul Hartley's tenure as Aberdeen captain got off to a disappointing start as the Dons lost the final match of their pre-season tour of England, to manager Mark McGhee's former side Brighton, 1-0.
Scotland international Hartley, signed in midweek after leaving Bristol City, could not inspire his new team-mates who looked tired and lacklustre as they went down to Elliott Bennett's first-half goal.
Elsewhere, St Johnstone went down 3-2 to a Manchester United XI in Alan Main's testimonial at McDiarmid Park, while St Mirren began their three-game tour of Northern Ireland with a 2-0 victory over Ballymena United.
Dundee United's Lithuanian trialist Irmantas Zelmikas scored for both sides as the Tannadice men went down 2-1 to Hull in their friendly match at the KC Stadium.
