Greece's Euro 2004 hero Angelos Charisteas has left Nurnberg to begin a new adventure with French Ligue 1 side Arles-Avignon.
The two clubs confirmed the transfer for an undisclosed fee on Tuesday as Arles look to strengthen following promotion to the top flight last season.
The 30-year-old striker, whose most famous goal earned Greece victory over Portugal in the final of Euro 2004, joined Nurnberg three years ago from Feyenoord after having previously spent two years in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.
His first year in Bavaria saw him help Nurnberg into the third round of the UEFA Cup with three goals in six appearances, but he was unable to prevent them from being relegated to the second division and was subsequently loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen.
He returned to Bavaria last season, but failed to make an impact.
"We wish Angelos all the best for his new challenge in the south of France," commented Nurnberg's director of sport Martin Bader on his club's website.
"He was always a welcome part of our team, both as a person and a character."
