Who had a corker and who had a stinker at Stamford Bridge?
Petr Cech Captained the side for the first time in the absence of John Terry and marked the occasion with an excellent block to deny Michael Ballack. 7
Jose Bosingwa Given an easy ride defensively but failed to make the most of the chance to surge forward down the right and final ball lacked quality. 6
Branislav Ivanovic Settled after being given an early test by lanky striker Stefan Kiessling and kept the backline organised in the absence of Terry. 7
David Luiz Stunning goal showed the Blues strikers exactly how to do it. More than made up for the occasional sign of ring-rustiness at the back. 8
Ashley Cole The England man put in his usual high speed shift up and down the left flank and was unlucky not to create a first half opening after linking well with Mata. 7
Raul Meireles The former Liverpool man was the pick of the Chelsea midfield and is already looking to be a shrewd deadline day signing. 7
John Obi Mikel Did his usual effective job in front of the back four but if anyone could be accused of slowing Chelsea's forward movements, it was the Nigeria international. 5
Florent Malouda Settled into a disciplined role sandwiched between Cole and Mata in the first half before providing a growing threat from the left after the break. 7
Daniel Sturridge The striker is clearly full of confidence after his back-heeled winner last Saturday and looked dangerous whenever he caught sight of goal. Unlucky to be hauled off. 8
Fernando Torres Talked the talk this week but lacked the sharpness in the box to make the most of several clear chances. Good assists for both goals. 7
Juan Mata Leverkusen had clearly done their homework on the former Valencia man – until he pounced to score. Lively performance from Spaniard. 6
Subs: Anelka (Sturridge 64) Added pace to the attack. Lampard (Meireles 64) Helped steer Chelsea towards victory. Alex (Luiz 78) Solid display in closing stages.
