AVB faces FA charge after unleashing rant at ref

Andre Villas-Boas blasted referee Chris Foy after Chelsea suffered a shock defeat yesterday.
The urbane Portuguese coach unleashed his first rant in English football after the Merseyside official sent off Jose Boswinga and Didier Droga – and gave QPR a first-half penalty at Loftus Road.
The Blues boss angrily confronted Foy – and fourth official Kevin Friend – after his side’s second defeat of the season.
He is now set to face an FA charge, with the club being fined £25,000 after receiving seven bookings as well as the two red cards. QPR had two players cautioned. But Villas-Boas insisted: “We don’t have a problem with discipline – I have a problem with referees supplying discipline.
“The ref was poor, very, very poor. And it reflected in the result. I spoke to him at the end and I was very aggressive to him afterwards.
“I don’t care if he’s okay or not. Conspiracy theories can lead to bans and lead to you calling us cry babies, and we’re not. But it keeps happening.
“It’s the third time in a row where a referee has directly influenced the result for us and we’re not happy with this. In three games there have been blatant refereeing mistakes.”
Villas-Boas claimed his side had also suffered biased refereeing at Manchester United and Stoke.
The Blues boss admitted the red card for Drogba was correct but claimed Foy was out of his depth. He added: “It was a West London derby – he couldn’t handle a game of this emotion.”
“A couple of decisions are right, yellow cards for sure. But I think he lost it before and was card happy towards the team.”
But QPR boss Neil Warnock said: “I am so pleased that we had the referee because a lot would have been conned.
“When you are beat like that and have two men sent off, it’s easy to blame the referee. He made far fewer mistakes than Chelsea and QPR did today.”
