Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is determined to help Fabio Capello and England’s World Cup challenge.
He has promised his fellow Italian he will keep John Terry and Frank Lampard fresh for the 2010 finals.
The England pair never want to miss a game but Ancelotti is resting both for tonight's Carling Cup clash with Bolton.
Lampard takes a place on the bench, while Terry has the night off completely.
It is part of Ancelotti’s plan for two of Capello’s key players to have a “fantastic” World Cup.
Ancelotti said: “If I have a chance to rest players – especially those who play in their national teams – it’s better for everyone.
“They do want to play every game, even this season. But, for them, it’s better sometimes to rest.
“It’s very important to prevent injuries. When I played, it was work, work, work every day. These days you work hard with intensity, but it’s also important to give the players rest to prevent injuries. This is our way.
“At the end of May, John Terry and Lampard will be in very good condition and will have a fantastic World Cup.”
Centre-back Alex and striker Daniel Sturridge are expected to start.
