Chelsea can almost guarantee Champions League qualification tomorrow - and heap more pressure on Atletico Madrid coach Abel Resino.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team lead Group D with two wins out of two while Atletico have just one point and will be eight points behind the Blues if they lose at Stamford Bridge.
Atletico have crashed to 15th in the Spanish League just three points off the bottom following a 3-0 thrashing on Sunday night at Osasuna.
Madrid president Enrique Cerezo claims the under-fire coach is safe for the time being but he wants to see a turnaround soon.
“At the moment we haven’t thought about changing coaches,” Cerezo said last night.
“Now is not the most opportune time to be speaking about a change of coaches.”
Atletico have won only one match in the league this season and have allowed 17 goals in seven league games – the most in Spain.
“That’s a serious problem,” Cerezo said. “It’s difficult right now, but we’ll try to find the solution as quick as possible.”
Resino blamed bad luck after Sunday’s shocker. He said: "We have to continue working hard to correct the errors.
"We have put everything into it but the soccer gods are being very unjust with us.
"We had many chances but [Osasuna goalkeeper] Ricardo was sensational.”
