Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti could be ready for a surprise move for Inter Milan defender Nicolas Burdisso.
The Chelsea hierarchy have been courting Benfica defender David Luiz but the £27m asking price have put them off.
But Chelsea need defensive cover after allowing Ricardo Carvalho move to Real Madrid and a move for Burdisso could be an option.
Inter technical director Marco Branca has confirmed the club may be willing to listen to offers.
Argentina international Burdisso, 29, who spent the majority of last season on loan at Roma, can play anywhere along the back four.
