Norwich have confirmed Colchester have reported the club to the Football League following their failure to agree compensation over the appointment of Paul Lambert as manager.
Lambert quit the Us to take over from Bryan Gunn at Carrow Road following the sacking of the Canaries legend due the club`s poor start to life in League One after relegation last season.
Assistant manager Ian Culverhouse and football operations manager Gary Karsa followed Lambert to Carrow Road, where they have transformed City`s fortunes by steering them into fifth.
A Norwich statement read: "City can confirm they have been informed Colchester United have made a formal complaint to the Football League against the Canaries and three members of our management team, Paul Lambert, Ian Culverhouse and Gary Karsa.
"The matter is now in the hands of our legal representatives and the two clubs will be called to a hearing of the Football Disciplinary Commission to resolve the matter."
