James Vaughan opened his Palace account in style as he fired in a hat-trick to help ease the pain of Julian Speroni’s Joe Hart-style howler.

Vaughan, on a three-month loan from Everton, fired in a wonder-goal before adding two more either side of half time to complete the first hat-trick of his career.

Dave Kitson taped into an empty net for his first Pompey goal after Speroni’s mix-up, but Neil Danns added a fourth for Palace from the spot after Michael Brown tripped him.
