Darren Ferguson is ready to answer an SOS from Sheffield United if they sack Kevin Blackwell.

Blades boss Blackwell is under immense pressure at Bramall Lane after one win in nine games.

Victory at home over Peterborough in their previous match has bought Blackwell a little time.

But Ferguson, 37, is ready to step in should United supremo Kevin McCabe give Blackwell the bullet.

Ferguson, also linked with the Portsmouth vacancy, controversially left Championship rivals Posh earlier this month with the club in the relegation zone.

But Sir Alex Ferguson’s son is still highly-regarded in the game following back-to-back promotions in his successful rookie reign at Posh.

And his good work at London Road has not gone unnoticed at Sheffield United, who are languishing 14th in the table.
