Darly Murphy says being booed by Sunderland fans will make him “stronger”.
The Ireland international has fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light and has suffered by being jeered - and boss Steve Bruce accepts he needs to find a new club, with Cardiff interested.
Murphy has started just one league game this season, and six last season, and wants a fresh start.
The versatile striker said: “The boo boys have had their say and it’s not been a nice experience because at the end of the day everyone goes on the pitch wanting to do their best and giving everything.
“You are not going to have it your own way all of the time. This last few months have been a learning curve for me and hopefully I’ll be a stronger person for it.
“You are going to have hard times in your career and it’s about how you cope with them.
“It’s definitely been up and down for me and I don’t need telling if I haven’t played well, but every fan has a right to their opinion. However, to be fair, they got behind me on Saturday against Barrow, so it was nice for a change.”
Bruce admitted last week that Murphy is up for grabs and the star said: “If something comes up then I’d have to consider it. I’ve hardly played in the Premier League this season and that tells its own story.
“It’s been great being in the team again and it’s reminded me what I’ve been missing. I need to be playing games.
“I’ve been close to leaving a couple of times in the last year or so. We’ll see what happens.”.
