Debate: Which player do you think Man United have bid for?

Sir Alex Ferguson today confirmed he is trying to sign at least one new player, but refused to say who it was.

"We have made a bid for one player who would enhance us a great deal," said Ferguson, ahead of his side's pre-season trip to South Africa and Nigeria.

"I have replaced Gerard Pique with Jonny Evans, so we are back to the same numbers.

"If we got one more it would strengthen us even further."
