With Manchester United's assistant manager Carlos Queiroz expected to be confirmed as the new Portugal boss within the next day or so, speculation is mounting as to who Sir Alex Ferguson will appoint his new number 2.
Former Reds legend -and current Academy boss - Brian McClair is understood to be one of the leading contenders , but Manchester United bosses are thought to be casting their net wider.
Yesterday both Swansea City and Barnsley were forced to issue statements distancing their managers - Roberto Martinez and Simon Davey respectively - from the position.
